Crowdfunding minimizes business risk-taking and increases entrepreneurship mind-set, which is why an unused crowdfunding potential represents a huge challenge especially in the eastern parts of central European countries. CROWD-FUND-PORT aims thus to improve skills and competences of all relevant stakeholder groups to prepare them for taking advantage of the crowdfunding phenomena. Change will be visible in improved financial conditions for start-ups fostering innovation, employment and social stability in the region.
The project focus will be on economically weaker businesses with fewer opportunities, who do not have access to bank loans, but who would be able to start business ideas through crowdfunding. Outputs and results of the project will benefit crowdfunding platform operators as well as small and medium sized enterprises by increasing their competences. Crowdfunding investors will profit from increased safety by a better understanding of benefits and risks and policy makers will gain increased decision-making competences.

Karsten Wenzlaff from the project partner ikosom is one of the authors of the Report. All project partners contributed to this report with insights into their respective markets. The European Council is currently debating the proposal of the European Commission for a European Crowdfunding Service Provider Regimes. One of its innovative features was the introduction of a 29th regime. Crowdfunding platforms could opt-in to operate under this regime if they wanted to facilitate the emission of securities across borders. Click here to read more.

Project partners gathered at the last but one partner meeting in a historical city of Erfurt in Thuringia, Germany. The meeting was hosted by ikosom, one of the project partners. Partners discussed the final steps towards successful conclusion of the project which is scheduled for end of June 2019.

The national round table “Crowdfunding in Croatia and in the EU” took place on June 27th in Zagreb. Project partner Brodoto hosted key stakeholders in crowdfunding, such as representatives of national government (Ministry of Regional Development and EU Funds), business support institutions (Croatian Agency for SMEs, Innovations and Investments (HAMAG-BICRO) and Development Agency Zagreb (RAZA)), crowdfunding platforms (Funderbeam SEE), financial institutions - banks and stock exchange market representatives (ERSTE bank and Zagreb Stock Exchange), and SMEs with experience in crowdfunding (STEMI).

Second partner meeting took place in Budapest, Hungary. Representatives of all partners gathered to evaluate the work that has been done and to coordinate upcoming tasks and deliverables. The meeting fulfilled its role as a platform to discuss details of tasks and take decisions on topics that needed some clarification.

The convention has gathered crowdfunding experts from Europe with the aim of developing crowdfunding in the region of SE Europe. The speakers included representatives of every crowdfunding platform in the region, business investors, crowdfunders, lawyers, innovators, government representatives and others.

The project has started successfully with kick-off meeting organized in Ptuj, Slovenia. Partners met for the first time, the project was introduced in detail and Work Package leaders presented their ideas to fulfil the expected Work Package outputs. Steering Comitee was also set up.
