«... All of us, as food consumers, worry about health, packaging and safety matters.
The I-CON project stands out to put together food SMEs needs and solution providers, enhancing their own potentials along the food value chain.
I-CON is about linking cross-sectoral competences in design, mechatronics and labelling to food processing, in order to
increase SMEs competitiveness and above all to create a sustainable socio-economic multiplier effect.
More than 200 SMEs analyzed by the partners, more than 30 good practices and solutions identified, more than 20 funding opportunities on food sector innovation collected, thanks to an effective international cooperation.
More details can be found in our Facebook Community page»
During these years, we tried to help as many SMEs as possible either with knowledge transfer and by sharing and using different tools, as well as with concrete solutions from mechatronics, design, food safety and labelling.
I-Con project was presented at the 169th EAAE Seminar on System Dynamics and Innovation in Food Networks in Garmisch-P, Germany.
The forum features presentations and discussions that should foster exchange, creativity, and the development of new ideas for innovative and interdisciplinary research. As part of the program, on the 20 February 2019, Campden BRI Hungary presented its experiences related to the applicability of practical assessment toolkits on determination of the needs of SMEs in food safety, quality and cost effectiveness.
Is the online tool of the project providing a
visual depiction of joint possibilities and enables
to understand how well regions and SMEs are
able to access the resources and opportunities necessary
for meeting their basic needs and advancing knowledge.

The I-CON project Training Academy dedicated to the food innovation sector, hosted by UNIS&F, took place in Treviso from 20th to 22nd March 2018, and it focused on aspects related to mechatronics, food design, packaging and hygiene and the safety of food for the agri-food sector.
What happened during the 3 days? Thanks to small classes, working groups and in-depth workshops alternated between Palazzo Giacomelli, the headquarters of Unindustria Treviso and the classrooms of UNIS&F, a great opportunity to deepen and increase knowledge for all the participants involved in the initiative. Among the many topics, from the theme of food or beverage packaging has emerged that the perceptual aspects are decisive in the choice of purchase, because the buyers see, touch, smell the packaging before its contents.
To make a successful product you must have clearly understood its characteristics from the drafting of the project brief, as demonstrated by the various companies invited.
3 thematic topics, 23 facilitators trained:
as the project activities, the training has been focused on the search for solutions to improve skills in the food sector, through an intersectoral cooperation between mechatronics (process technology), biotechnology (food safety) and food design (packaging).
